August 27 – Three Things

I can’t believe this amazing August weather! It being this cool and comfortable in the hottest month of the year, while thankful to God, I’m a little worried about the coming winter. If it gets this cool so early, then what is the winter going to be like?

What have I learned this Wednesday?

  1. Horror and evil never seem to take a break. Today’s shooting at a children’s school mass in Minneapolis makes all of us sick. Two children are dead, 17 have been shot and injured. Please pray for the families of Annunciation Catholic School. What I don’t need is a bunch of politicians proclaiming they want the banning of guns right now. Give it a couple of days.
  2. We hear a lot about the issues facing our neighborhoods and communities. Today I heard someone near my church in Garfield talking about why no one stands up to make our parks cleaner and safer for kids. Driving away from church a little later, while listening to a religious podcast, the hosts were talking about why the church doesn’t take a stronger stand on what is happening in Gaza. I shook my head. Should we worry about the starving people in Gaza? Of course. We pray for the end to the troubles there weekly in church and daily in our private prayers. Why can’t our local churches take up the issues the people near us are facing?
  3. Homemade hummus without tahini or salt can taste good with additional smoked paprika. lemon juice, and a teaspoon of cumin. I made it this afternoon because I want to make this recipe from Well Your World.
